Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The Tennis Professional is responsible for supporting the tennis program by providing instruction, overseeing tournament operations, and assisting with supervision in the tennis shop. The Tennis Professional enjoys interacting with members and guests while supporting the tennis staff with administrative duties and hiring strategies. Under the direction of the Tennis Director, the Tennis Professional looks for creative opportunities to bring awareness and participation into the tennis program.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management of all tennis instruction by organizing, promoting, and overseeing lesson programs, junior tennis, tennis leagues, group and individual programs
  • Ensure successful club competitions and tournaments by collaborating with Tennis Director/Event Coordinator (if applicable) on preparation, staging, scoreboards, tournament rules and format
  • Oversee tennis shop operations by performing or supervising the following duties: checking-in members and guests; taking court reservations and notifying customers of court fees; ensuring that all reservations are recorded on a court sheet and filed; maximizing techniques such as double booking, credit card guarantees, call backs, tournament play and selling to fill low utilization times; utilizing the Point of Sale (POS) system for processing purchases, credit card transactions and entering tournament and league information; answering the telephone according to ACE Standards; keeping shop neat and orderly; straightening and stocking merchandise; following AGC guidelines for opening and closing duties, including cash handling responsibilities; tallying court sheet at end of day
  • Assist in managing tennis operations staff by interviewing candidates; making recommendations for hire; orienting, training, assigning, scheduling and evaluating staff; supervising performance and carrying out disciplinary action as needed in accordance with AGC policies and applicable laws
  • Assist in managing administrative aspects of the tennis program by creating and following an annual departmental budget; preparing daily, weekly and monthly reports as requested; preparing tournament and league reconciliation for account tracking
  • Market the tennis program by creating promotions and special events through advertising, coupons, etc.
  • Oversee tennis merchandise operations including purchasing, pricing and display; creating sales, promotions and discounts; preparing inventory and cost of sales reports
  • Implement and support all AGC initiatives and programs as requested by management
  • Other duties may be assigned by management

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Member of the USPTA preferred
  • 1-2 years’ experience teaching the game of tennis
  • Solid time management, organization and prioritization skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer service orientation and a focus on customer satisfaction is required
  • Basic math skills
  • Valid driver’s license required

 

 Education

  • 4-year degree preferred

Working Conditions

  • Days and hours of work vary by schedule and business needs.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for long periods of time, to walk, read, hear, talk, balance, climb, use hands, use fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, smell, taste, push or pull. The employee may be required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
