Responsibilities

OVERVIEW – Tanoan Country Club is situated in the Northeast Heights of Albuquerque, N.M., at the base of Sandia Peak and is the largest private club in the Duke City. With a focus on providing excellent customer service, coupled with a beautiful, mountain-view golf experience, we strive to be the top private club experience in the area.  Designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge and opening in 1979, Tanoan CC is a 27-hole routing placed comfortably at a mile-high above sea-level surrounded by expansive views and dramatic shots with every hole. At 310 days of sunshine per year, the Membership enjoys year-round golf in the best seasonal weather available.

 

POSITION REPORTS TO – General Manager

PURPOSE – Overall responsibility for the organization, coordination, and delivery of an elite golf operation and Member experience while providing direction in areas including staff recruitment and development, merchandising, tournaments, teaching/player development, club fitting, finance, etc.

 

JOB OBJECTIVE -

  • General Operations including…
    • Building a culture of providing great Member service while assembling an amazing team
    • Providing a great Member experience through effective management of all areas of golf operations
    • Assisting with implementation of coordinated administrative purposes to provide guidance in all phases of golf operation
    • Assist with coordination of and provide management of all retail objectives and operations
    • Design and conduct top of the line player development programs and operations
    • Work closely with all department heads to achieve the goals and objectives of the facility

 

  • Golf Operations
    • Maintain a close working relationship with the GC Superintendent and provide advice on course playability and daily/tournament setup
    • Coordinate plans with food and beverage for food needs for all golf functions
    • Manage Member and reservation system, tracking and verifying all Members/Guests activity
    • Manage outside service experience including starting, pace of play, practice areas, etc.
    • Manage golf cart fleet management, maintenance and record keeping
    • Work collaboratively with all golf associations while managing an innovative tournament program, group outings, and weekly game/s that service all Member segments
    • Serve as the elite player representative of the Club playing golf with a variety of Members and/or guests as time permits

 

  • Administration, Business & Financial
    • Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and supervise all golf operations staff while maintaining payroll management efficiently
    • Ensure evaluations and annual reviews are completed and recorded for all applicable staff
    • Enforce golf shop standard operating procedures and ensure they are adhered to
    • Collaborate with Member Relations Director and other managers as needed to disseminate and manage regular communication efforts to Members
    • Strive to achieve financial and operational performance goals of the golf shop operations services
    • In keeping with facility goals, utilize yield management techniques to maximize course usage

 

  • Retail Management
    • Lead retail merchandise strategy in line with the mission of the facility
    • Maintain a profitable golf merchandising operation while collaborating in development of buying plans and all golf related purchasing
    • Supervise and conduct accurate and timely physical inventories
    • Present a diverse and desirable line of products
    • Maintain necessary systems utilizing POS to safeguard inventories
    • Maintain accurate recordkeeping policies and procedures
    • Supervise and train all golf shop staff to maximize sales opportunities
    • Ensure customer database includes and tracks important dates, spending, sizes, preferences
    • Maintain an attractive and orderly appearance in and around the golf shop
  • Player Development
    • Develop, provide, and oversee an enhanced golf instruction program offering individual and group clinics for all levels focusing on programs for women, families, seniors and juniors
    • Develop and oversee player development programs targeting all demographics
    • Develop and implement player development marketing in conjunction with marketing team
    • Provide resources to guests/members/students, like lessons and club fitting, to encourage progress and commitment to increase spend and time with facility
  • Member Development
    • Assist in promotion of new Member leads and provide a supporting role in assisting with prospective Members and orientation of new Members

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAITS & LEADERSHIP REQUIREMENTS -

  • PGA of America Class A membership in good standing in an active classification preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited four-year university preferred
  • Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
  • Fundamental supervisory practices and principles
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating the behavior, work ethic and look that is expected of all employees
  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills
  • Self-motivated with desire to promote and market
  • Service and customer focused attitude
  • Experienced in written and oral business communications
  • Remain up to date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other applications, i.e. email, internet, tournament software
    • Experience specifically with programs like ForeTees, EZSuite, Golf Genius
  • Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community
  • Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, trade shows and continuing education to keep abreast of marketing and business trends
  • Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations and relevant software/tools

 

OFFICE HOURS – Serving non-traditional hours is required up to and including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays.
